| Universiteit
Maastricht- Master in European Public Affairs
Application deadline: April
1, 2004
Growing interdependence in Europe is generating
an increased demand for people with a solid understanding
of the European dimension. Today, policy problems
transcend national borders and national problem-solving
capacities.
Most curricula of higher education, however, are
still primarily focused on national contexts. Graduates
and professionals are generally quite familiar with
their own national setting, but there are considerably
less well informed when it comes to practices and
processes in other European countries or within
the EU. For this reason, the Maastricht Master's
in European Public Affairs is designed to give students
and professionals an understanding of the complexity
of Europe and help them reformulate intricate problems
in manageable and achievable terms.
The EPA Programme provides advanced professional
training for people interested in internationalizing
their curriculum in a scholarly manner. The objective
is to enable students to learn to think in European
terms, i.e., they become better able to collect
and utilise information concerning the public domain
in Europe and the European countries. The basic
principle of the learning process is to enhance
analytical skills in dealing with concrete issues
and challenges (according to the problem based learning
methodology of the Universiteit Maastricht). The
one-year programme has a multi-disciplinary and
practice-oriented character and focuses on contemporary
European public issues, on cross-national diversity,
and on the European Union and its institutions.
Graduates of this programme may develop their careers
in public organizations with European or trans-national
missions. They may also work as managers and staff
analysts in non-profit organisations, in public
affairs divisions of private corporations, in private
firms performing 'privatised'' government functions
and in consulting firms.
The European Public Affairs program is a joint venture
of Universiteit Maastricht and the European Institute
of Public Administration.
