To The President in charge of the Forum of Presidents

DKMT - THE CITIZENS' EUROREGION
Petition of the Non-governmental Organizations from
the Danube-Kris-Mures-Tisza Euroregion

Mr. President,

Taking into consideration:

The importance of cross-border cooperation as a stimulating factor of regional development and the sustaining efforts of Romania, Hungary, and Serbia for the European integration,

The necessity of promoting and strengthening the partnership between public administration and non-governmental organizations in the DKMT Euroregion as a means of citizen participation in achieving the aims of Euroregional cooperation,

The increasing contribution of the civil sector in the cross-border cooperation in the DKMT Euroregion,

We, as representatives of the civil sector of the DKMT Euroregion, request the modification of the Protocol of Regional Cooperation in the following sense:

1. To include reprezentatives of non-governmental organizations, designated by the civil sector, in the decision-making bodies of the DKMT Euroregion.
2. To set up a DKMT Euroregional fund to support cross-border cooperation, including civic organizations initiatives.

In accordance with the procedures stipulated by the current Protocol of Regional Cooperation, we ask that a distinctive issue should be added on the agenda of the next session of the Forum of Presidents, dedicated to the presentation of the demands formulated by the DKMT civic sector.

The present document is based on the Resolution adopted at the conference of the non-governmental organizations of the DKMT Euroregion, held in Timisoara, on March 23, 2002, and it is formulated in the spirit of Timisoara Declaration On Cross-border Regional Cooperation in South-Eastern Europe.

Timisoara,
March 23, 2002
