Nagymágocs

Nagymágocs was first mentioned as "Magoch" in 1426. It is located 19 kilometres from Szentes and it has 3700 citizens. It was named after the Szente-Nagymágocs clan who were the first owners of this area.

The castle, which is bigger than the one in Derekegyháza, was built in 1896-97. It has eclectic-neobaroque design, and emphasized by a middle set-out. The medieval Magoch monastery was destroyed during the process of construction.

The area offers fishing and hunting but the biggest attraction is the Károlyi Castle.

At present the building functions as a home for elderly and it has a 40 hectare arboretum-like park. The park has a very beautiful English-garden with rare ancient oak trees and pine families. The nearby 10 hectare lake which belongs to the castle adds the scenic view of the area.

The internal sections of the castle such as, the entrance-hall, winter garden, library and reception-room offers visitors a unique experience, as well. There is a three-storey granary opposite the entrance of the park, which was built by Miklós Ybl. An interesting fact is that the interior of the building was was made from solely wood.
