Szentes has been developing dynamically since the political transformation. From the viewpoint of the town's economic life, development and its opportunities, the sunshine and richness of geothermal energy ( 32 thermal wells) are determinant, and the town works hard to make the most of it.

The horticulture, based on thermal water heating, is known as the biggest closely related greenhouse and plastic tunnel horticulture. On the 23 hectare greenhouse surface, heated by 14 thermal wells, in the 40 hectare non-heated plastic tunnel and on the 50 hectare agricultural land, whole pepper, tomato, cucumber, Chinese cabbage are produced.
The flavour of the vegetables that are produced in Szentes is unique. The outstanding vitamin content of the plants is contributed by the special climate of the South-Lowland, the great number of hours of sunshine, the high content of mineral substance of the natural waters.
The horticulture of the Árpád Agrár Rt. (Árpád Agrarian PLC) is the richest in the area, where irrigation system is used for the cultivation in thermal water heated glasshouses and plastic tunnels. Thanks to the method and extensive marketing- and trade review, the first-fruits of Szentes have become internationally acknowledged.
The objective of Dél-Kertész (South-Gardener) is to provide market and sale security for the family farms, agricultural companies in the area. It is a non-profit organization, which has 3000 m2 cooling capacity and 4000 m2 sorter area.
It is a very important factor in the development of cultivation that there is an agricultural research work in Szentes. The demand for the processing of agricultural products has entailed the development of industrial institutions. The long-established poultry-farming is run by Hungerit PLC, which has country-wide distribution of its meat products, snack meals and cold meat.
This firm with staff strength of 1500, has production cutting line of European standards, two chopping lines and a high level processing technology.
The Legrand PLC is the Hungarian market leading company which produces and distributes materials for electric-light installation, in the area of low-tension mountings. As a member of Legrand group, it has international background, experience, and world standard products which co-inside with the Hungarian traditions. It is the biggest engineering industrial factory in the area that produces lamps, switches and other electric-light installation wares.
The trade has been developed mainly by the integration of agricultural products and sending the products - made the local industrial branches - to the market. It is associated with complex consumer's claim satisfying retail activity, especially in the area of car selling, bank-, and food network. The next level of development would be the agricultural integration, which will be realized by new investments from companies with a big turnover and by the expanding investments of the Szentes Industrial Park complete with infrastructure.
The openness, dynamism and receptive way of thinking of the town is indicated by the fact that beside the local entrepreneurs, French, German, Italian, Ukrainian, Danish and Israeli entrepreneurs find their account.
