Economics

After 1950 Tomeşti developed due to the glass plant, which became the centre of all economic activities. Most of the production was exported to countries like Germany, USA, Austria, France, Canada. After the revolution the economic processes at a national level affected also the glass plant from Tomeşti, which led to its clearance in 1999. In 2001 a part of it was bought and it continued to produce glass til the beginning of 2004, but with smaller results. In 2004 another investor who stopped the production at the end of 2005 took the plant.

Main economic branches are winning and processing of wood, coal industry, textile industry, sport clothes.
